Dear Employers,
Bulldogs by the Bay is a volunteer effort by Yale alumni in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide a network of contacts to local employers so Yale students can find meaningful internships in the Bay Area. This network is provided exclusively to Yale undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least one year at Yale and are in good standing with the University.
We are currently inviting local employers to offer internships for the summer of 2010. Once you have decided to offer a position, we will not be involved in the selection process. You may select a student from the applicants who contact you and enter into an agreement with the student directly. It is up to you as the prospective employer to define and describe in the Job Description form all aspects of employment, including compensation, hours of work and transportation, and to work out with a prospective intern any assistance or benefits you may offer to make the intern’s experience personally rewarding, as well as a valuable learning experience.
In the past, prospective employers have asked for students with specialized qualifications. We cannot promise that, but the sooner you provide us with a completed Job Description form, the sooner we can publicize your internship on the Yale campus and the greater the likelihood of fulfilling requests for specialized interns.
We are exploring possibilities of offering group housing for students who desire it; however, we recommend students use widely available alternatives, such as Craigslist, to find their own housing arrangements. We plan to use the facilities of the Westminster House South on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley as a center for evening and weekend activities for the students to acquaint them with the local Yale community. You may participate in these activities along with members of the local Yale community.
Additional description of the Bulldogs by the Bay program is contained in the documents listed below:
If you decide to participate in Bulldogs by the Bay, please execute the Memorandum of Understanding describing your internship and evidencing your commitment to the program. The form of the Memorandum of Understanding suggests appropriate intern compensation for your budgeting purposes. The Job Description form is to be filled out online by the 31st of December 2009. Your Job Description will then be posted on our web site and promoted on the Yale campus in the Undergraduate Office of Career Services.
Finally, a proposed timeline is included in the Memorandum of Understanding for your planning purposes. Note that Job Description forms should be filed online by the 31st of December. The sooner jobs are posted in New Haven, the greater the number of students who will review it and the greater likelihood you'll get the intern of your choice. Remember, students will be lining up other summer employment during the holiday break.
