CLIMBers,
To help you in your planning for this summer, I am including information about the housing that I think will be helpful. I’m sure there will be some items not addressed, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
- Housing will be provided at The Inn at Auraria at 1051 14th Street, Denver, CO80202.
- For Brown, Yale, Harvard, Middlebury and MIT students, you will be able to move in to The Inn starting on Saturday before Memorial Day.
- The last day that all students can be in The Inn is Sunday after the last day of work.
- The Inn at Auraria (http://www.theinnatauraria.com/) is an urban, student housing development catering to college students attending one of the three schools at the Auraria Campus which is located downtown.
- Each of you will have to sign a lease with The Inn on the day you arrive. This document will outline the rules and regulations of the building which you agree to follow. The payments for your housing will be made by CLIMB (unless otherwise specified) so you will not have any financial responsibility during the course of the summer for the housing (utilities / cable are included in the payments being made by CLIMB so you don’t have to worry about that either). You will, however, be responsible for any damages to your apartment. During the first week, we will go over the rules and regulations of the building to ensure a smooth experience for each of you and the rest of the people staying at the Inn.
- The Inn is right downtown, two blocks away from the 16th street pedestrian mall, and six blocks away from RTD’s main bus terminal (for those that will need to take the bus to get to work).
- Each of you will be housed in a four-bedroom unit. Each student will have his/her own bedroom and will share a common room, kitchen and two bathrooms with the other three people in the apartment. The Inn will make every effort to have all of the CLIMB rooms on the same floor. We are working through a few last minute issues with The Inn before finalizing your room assignments. Once we have that information, we will forward it on to you.
- Each apartment is partially furnished. The common room will have two chairs, a couch and some side tables. Each bedroom has a full size bed, a desk, desk lamp and a dresser. The kitchen includes standard appliances (refrigerator, microwave, oven, etc.). There is no overhead lighting in the apartment, and lamps are not provided by the Inn. Interns will be responsible for providing their own linens, dishes, pots & pans, etc. (The Inn has an arrangement with Bed, Bath and Beyond where you can buy certain packages to outfit your room / apartment – ask for more info upon arrival if you’re interested).
- Parking is available at the CurtisHotel parking garage which is one block away. The cost is ~$165 per month (pretty standard for downtown). The name of the garage is the Curtis Hotel Garage. Call (303) 607-9093 and ask for Raul Castillo. Raul handles all accounts for students staying at The Inn (mention you’re staying there to receive the above rate). You can either call ahead and set this up, or can set it up during your first week in Denver. There are other options not affiliated with The Inn that might be cheaper if you want to look around.
- To get from Denver International Airport to The Inn, you can take the RTD skyRide for $9 (Route AF to Market Street Station and then walk 6 blocks – more info on their webpage http://www.rtd-denver.com/skyRide/index.html) or you can arrange for a cab, Super Shuttle, etc.. DIA’s webpage has a ground transportation section where you can search by destination and it will give you a list of all your options with phone numbers (http://www.flydenver.com/gt/index.asp).
Someone from the CLIMB group will be around most of that first weekend to welcome you to Denver and answer any questions you may have. As your arrival weekend approaches, we will distribute contact information for the key members of CLIMB. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions. We look forward to seeing you here in Denver.
