Dear Bulldogs Employers,

Thank you for being a part of this exciting internship program. We look forward to delivering to your organization a bright, motivated Yale student and a positive work experience for both.

Below is an idea of what to expect in the next few months as you receive applications, conduct interviews and select an intern:

January-Mid February

  • The web is "live" and accepting student applications. The students will apply through the eRecruiting application system on the Undergraduate Career Services website at Yale and you will receive the applications via e-mail.
  • Please communicate with each applicant within 48 hours of receiving the application and, if possible, conduct the interview within the first week. If you know you are NOT interested in an applicant, please let them know so they can pursue other opportunities.
  • If you are having trouble finding a good fit, please let me know as I have access to every student who applies to every job in every city. It is common for me to suggest applicants who applied to a similar position in another city, and has the qualities you are looking for. With over 500 Yale students applying for positions in nine cities, I can often find the best applicant for you.
  • Offers to students are rolling. An offer should be extended as soon the Employer is sure who they would like to hire. It is important to remember that many students are applying to multiple positions, including positions to Bulldogs programs in other cities. It can become competitive, so it is important for Employers to be timely in their phone interviews and offers. Please do not wait until the February deadline to make your selection.
  • Once an Employer has chosen a student, the Employer should complete the “Commitment Letter,” found on the website. It is titled "Commitment Letter" and is located in the drop down menu under the city’s name of the bulldogsacrossamerica.com website. Copying you, I will send the offer to the student with a cover letter.
  • Students have 48 hours to accept/decline the job offer by filling out the required information on the Commitment Letter and returning it to me. I will then send a confirmation to all parties, finalizing the internship.
  • February 28,  is the loose deadline for student applications. If you have not chosen an intern, please finish the interview process and make your selection.

 March

We’d like all job commitments to be final by March 1,  but we know that is not always possible. Experience has shown that once the students leave for spring break, it is difficult to reach them and many have started making other plans for the summer. If you need to reach a candidate during the break, please be sure to get a phone number where they can be reached.

May

  • Employers will attend a Supervisor’s meeting where they will receive important information about the summer. It will include important days off we’d like the interns to have so they may participate in community immersion activities. While we like the Bulldogs to participate in these activities, we realize their first obligation is to you, and understand if these dates conflict with training/work activities. Our hope is that by supplying these dates early we can work around any possible conflicts.
  • Employers contact students to share information about travel to work (especially if they will need a parking pass), dress code, work hours, employment expectations, etc. We encourage employers to offer transportation on the first day or two to help the student acclimate.
  • Memorial weekend - Students arrive and move into housing. Their first day of work is the Tuesday after Memorial weekend.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks for your support!
