Brief Description of Agency or Firm's Mission:
grassroots solutions is a consulting firm based in Minnesota that specializes in grassroots organizing, strategy, training, and evaluation. Since 1999, grassroots solutions has worked across the country with nonprofit and labor organizations and their funders, political campaigns, corporations, and government entities to expand their grassroots capacity, win elections or legislative victories, address community concerns, or position brands on the market. We are currently accepting applications for our summer 2012 intern program. Positions are based in our beautiful offices in Minneapolis, MN office on University Ave SE near Highway 280.

Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Agency/Firm:
In keeping with our firm’s values, grassroots solutions’ internship program provides us with an opportunity to nurture, train, and educate talented new and emerging organizers. Additionally, our interns provide us with additional capacity to better serve our clients.

Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Intern:
rassroots solutions’ interns have an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of grassroots organizing and advocacy, to gain professional skills and, experience, and to develop their networks while working at a national consulting firm active in all different aspects of grassroots organizing. Interns are also involved in genuinely interesting work as they assist grassroots solutions’ staff/project teams in serving our clients in a professional and effective manner. As a multi-intern program, the internship also provides an opportunity to work with other new and emerging organizers.

Our office offers a casual and fun environment, but we are also hardworking and professional; interns are exposed to the experience of working in a consulting firm that gives 110% to its clients, and we ask the same of our interns. That being said, we manage to have a truly collegial culture that appreciates humor and good food. (Did we mention we frequently have good food around?).

We try to utilize our interns’ time effectively and proactively. We do everything possible to give interns a well-rounded experience and provide work that the intern can take ownership over/be responsible for and drive from start to finish. We encourage our interns to challenge themselves and to take on difficult tasks in order to provide an optimal learning experience.

grassroots solutions’ staff appreciate and acknowledge our interns’ time and contributions, and staff members make themselves available to talk about their backgrounds and experience with interested interns—many past interns have said they highly valued the career and/or school advice that project teams offered. Once a successful internship concludes, the intern coordinator is available indefinitely to provide references and referrals for interns. And of course, we coordinate as needed with students who wish to receive academic credit for the internship.
