Brief Description of Agency or Firm's Mission:
IQS Research is a market research and data analysis company with an emphasis on quantitative research. Our work is split between research pertaining to the barriers of educational attainment, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction. In addition, we also have a division that specializes in analysis of medical payment information. This is a unique concept for the profession, which has garnered multiple awards for the company.

We pride ourselves and have a reputation for delivering high quality, reliable and trustworthy results that our clients can utilize to set objectives, strategy and policy.

Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Agency/Firm:
This will be our seventh year in the Bulldogs program. In the past, our interns have been fully involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. The intern will report directly to the president of the company to perform research, solve problems and interact with clients. The intern will be involved in numerous types of data analysis and research projects that are used internally as well as directly by our clients.

Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Intern:
Our previous interns have gone on to become Fulbright Scholars and McKinsey Consultants, start non-profit organizations (while still a Yale student), become reporters for newspapers, and more. This internship provides the critical thinking foundation that helps to facilitate these later goals.

In 2011 we are again looking for one intern who will stand out from the crowd and is looking to make his or her mark on the world. Our internship is designed to provide direct exposure so that the intern can learn how to take an idea from the mind to the marketplace in a business setting.

Through this internship you should specifically expect to improve your skills in data analysis, critical thinking, client service, project development, project management, and problem solving, among others.

Job Description (should include: hours of work, job responsibilities, reporting structure -- chain of command, a description of the intern's "typical" day):
You will be assigned a role on numerous research projects that are in-house at the time of the internship. Typically these include projects of national, regional and local interest with the data being used by private clients as well as public entities and the media. Since the timing of projects varies it is difficult to identify the exact nature of the projects that will be in-house during the summer.

There will also be internal projects that focus on expanding the analysis done on past projects, improving existing client processes, and generally looking for opportunities to serve the client, expand the data analytics, or work more efficiently.

There are also several additional research projects where we have gathered data and performed analysis related to customer satisfaction, customer choice, patient satisfaction, patient consumerism, employee feedback, physician opinions, and more. While all of this information has been used for specific projects, there is still valuable information and insights that were beyond the scope of the original projects. Some of the projects for the intern will involve analyzing the existing data with the intent of providing a set of "fresh eyes" and the goal of providing additional insights and value.

All work will be done alongside a research analyst who can act as an immediate contact for questions as well as the president of the company.

The hours for this position are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM M-F.

Management Goals: (should include: role of supervisor, frequency of intermediate reviews, expectations of intern, and an explanation of how the intern fits into the organization's goals -- please indicate whether supervisor works full-time or part-time):
We are looking for an intern that will stand out from the crowd. As mentioned before, previous interns have gone on to very prominent roles and we expect the same from you. We are looking for an energetic and creative intern who wants to be involved in the company and the projects with which we are working. As we discussed in the "benefits to Intern" section, one of our goals is to help the intern learn how to take ideas from concept to implementation in a business setting.

We expect to involve you in client and internal meetings so that you can be involved in program design, data analysis and results presentations. Since this is a small company you will be working directly with the people who are running the projects. You will be expected to make suggestions, ask questions, and participate. For each project you will be given a specific components for which you are responsible, as well as desired expectations

Special Job Requirements (i.e. transportation, language, technical or other skills):
Our office is located about 20 minutes from Bellarmine (where you will be staying) and therefore having your own transportation will be necessary. Furthermore, due to the nature of our work the ideal intern will possess a combination of analytical abilities, strong computer skills, and an outgoing personality that works well with others and enjoys interacting with a variety of people.

Transportation: Students are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the workplace.

International Students: You will need to apply for permission from immigration to work off campus (Optional Practical Training) to engage in a BAA internship. OPT applications can take up to three months for immigration to process, so advance planning is required. These applications must be submitted through the Office of International Students and Scholars. For full information on the OPT application process go to http://www.yale.edu/oiss/immigration/common/f1students/opt.html or contact monica.weeks@yale.edu.

Additional Information:
Historically, we have found that people who really thrive in this setting can be described as naturally inquisitive, analytical, detail oriented, and driven.

We also have letters from all of our previous interns that were written to the new interns. These letters will provide you with the experience of previous Bulldogs and help you come up to speed more quickly.
