Brief Description of Agency or Firm's Mission:
About KentuckianaWorks--The federal Workforce Investment Act requires states to establish regional Workforce Investment Boards to administer federal, state and local workforce development funding for their regions. KentuckianaWorks is the Workforce Investment Board for the Greater Louisville region consisting of Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Spencer, Shelby and Trimble counties. Funding is primarily provided by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, through the Kentucky Education Workforce Development Cabinet and Louisville Metro Government.

KentuckianaWorks oversees the region's system of One-Stop Career Centers, where job seekers can find jobs and education and training opportunities and apply for unemployment insurance. One-Stop Career Centers also help employers meet their workforce needs by linking them with qualified employees. In addition, KentuckianaWorks publishes workforce-related research and data. KentuckianaWorks, in conjunction with economic development and workforce development partners, also provides services to employees and employers facing layoffs.

The KentuckianaWorks Board is composed of regional leaders from business, education, labor and government. The board, working together with KentuckianaWorks staff and partners, provides strategic leadership for workforce development efforts in the region.

KentuckianaWorks Vision

We envision the seven-county region as home to a skilled and educated workforce whose qualifications give our community a competitive advantage in making the Louisville area the nation's next “economic hotspot.”

KentuckianaWorks Mission

Our mission is to provide public leadership on the goal setting, performance measurement and system building needed to achieve the Board's vision while running and overseeing programs that complement that vision.

KentuckianaWorks Goals

Strategically, the KentuckianaWorks Board is positioned to address three major economic and workforce investment goals:

? Raising the educational attainment levels of our citizens across the board – from GEDs to PhDs.

? Creating a responsive workforce system that meets the needs of employers and economic development professionals.

? Aiming for and achieving quantum change, not just incremental progress, to move the Greater Louisville area into a new competitive position compared to our main competitors.

The Board will accomplish these goals by building business, education and community partnerships that address the lifelong education, training and employment needs of our community.
