Our mission is to empower and increase the entrepreneurial capacities of socially and economically diverse women and men, and thereby strengthen our communities through the creation of sustainable new businesses, new jobs, and the promotion of financial self-sufficiency.


Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Agency/Firm:
This internship would be extremely valuable to Renaissance.


Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Intern:
Interns will have an opportunity to develop resume-building skills, such as research, writing, critical thinking, and brainstorming on marketing and outreach approaches. Successful interns will receive letters of recommendation and may list key staff as references


Job Description (should include: hours of work, job responsibilities, reporting structure -- chain of command, a description of the intern's "typical" day):
We would like to hire two interns. Renaissance requests an intern (s) to conduct prospect research and assess new potential grants or other funding leads. They will also collaborate with staff on marketing and outreach for our small business training programs and business incubator.



Work hours will be flexible. Our hours are normally M - F, 9AM - 5PM, but intern may choose the hours best suited to his/her schedule.



Interns will meet with the Programs staff for general training and to outline the scope of their internship. Intern will be supervised by Kate Wilson, Development Manager, through in-person and email meetings.


Management Goals: (should include: role of supervisor, frequency of intermediate reviews, expectations of intern, and an explanation of how the intern fits into the organization's goals -- please indicate whether supervisor works full-time or part-time):
Intern will learn about Renaissance's mission, programs, services, and our clients. S/he will identify new funding opportunities to build Renaissance’s capacity to deliver outstanding entrepreneurship training programs. Intern will also prepare written documents including marketing materials, case studies and grant proposals.


Special Job Requirements (i.e. transportation, language, technical or other skills):
Ideal candidate will be a self-starter and impeccable attentive to detail. S/he must have outstanding computer skills, including Excel, previous experience in marketing, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Additional skills desired are basic knowledge of InDesign and/or Photoshop and familiarity with Joomla. The position is located at our South of Market office, 275 5th Street, San Francisco (we are located near BART and on several MUNI bus lines).
